January Sermon Series: “Give Us Three Weeks”
When something hits close to home, it profoundly affects us. During Advent and Christmas, we explore scriptures that reflect our longing for God to draw near. The “Close to Home” theme captures the tension of our faith—Emmanuel is with us, yet God’s promised day is not fully realized. May we find comfort in God’s presence, create a sanctuary for those far from home, and embrace joy, hope, and courage this season.
January 12 – “Why Do People Need Jesus?”
Scripture: Isaiah 53:1-6 & John 1:1-18
This week we will introduce our “Give Us Three Weeks” series. The sermon will focus on the basic understanding that Jesus Christ is the solution to the issues, struggles, and problems of the world. As Adam Hamilton says, “Jesus Christ is the solution to the deepest longings of the human heart.” By creating new creations, Jesus changes the world by changing people, creating a kingdom that spreads throughout the world.
January 19 – “Why Do People Need the Church?”
Scripture: Hebrews 10:19-25 & Acts 2:42-47
Rev. Thomas James is our guest speaker this Sunday.
“I believe in Jesus, I just don’t believe in institutional church…” We have heard that quote before. Why do we need to be in worship together, in community, and in fellowship? This week, we will answer this question!
January 26 – “Why Do People Need THIS Church?”
Scripture: Colossians 1:28-2:8; Matthew 19:13-15
Why has God placed Wesley UMC in this place and in this time? This week will cast a vision for why we are here and why we need to continue this ministry for decades to come. The message will speak to our work on discipleship and the importance of visioning and discerning God’s will. This will also be the time to celebrate all the great works God has done through Wesley and make a commitment once again to the church.
