January Sermon Series: Together
Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12
Join us in Wesley’s first communal worship of the new year this Sunday. We will celebrate Epiphany Sunday, which means that Christmastide, twelve days after Christmas, up to Epiphany, January 6 is ending. Pastor Jiyeon will share a message, “Looking Back and Looking Forward,” based on the wise men’s story in Matthew 2:1-12, as the first part of the new sermon series “Together.” Together, let us see what to “look back” and “look forward” as God’s people and church.
January 14 – “It’s More than H2O” (Baptism Renewal Service)
Scripture: Mark 1:4-11
Some members of our church family do not understand the concept of infant baptism. Others are concerned because they don’t remember their baptism and request to be rebaptized. This will be a teaching sermon that discusses baptism from the perspective of sacramental theology. We will discuss what John Wesley called “prevenient grace” and how this grace enters into our understanding of baptism. At the end of the sermon, everyone of all ages is invited to the Baptism Renewal Service to remember or anticipate their baptism. Together, let us be united in “one Lord, one faith, and one baptism (Ephesians 4:5).”
January 21 – “Well Done” (Leadership Recognition Sunday)
Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30
This service invites you to come and learn about the United Methodist Church policy and structure, 2024 Leadership, and 2023 Financial Report. While sharing our common ground as United Methodists, we will celebrate the ministry of all Christians, especially our leaders, to love God and neighbors. Together, let us look forward to hearing “Well done, good and faithful servants!” from our Master.
Scripture: –
Last part of the sermon series will be led by United Women in Faith (UWF, formerly United Methodist Women, UMW). Following the service, the Church Council 2024 will throw Everyone’s Birthday Party for everyone who has birthday. Together, let us celebrate and anticipate our togetherness in God.
