Sermon Series: The Wonder of Water

The image of water is woven throughout the Bible for a myriad of reasons, but at its core, water is life, whether it is sweet or bitter. This sermon series explores five stories in the Old Testament, including the wonderous work of God through water.

April 23 – “The Wonder of Water: It Was Good” (Green Sunday)

Scripture: Genesis 1:1-1, 2:8-14 (NRSV)

In observance of Earth Day, we learn about God’s creation and why and how to keep it green as God’s people.

April 30 – “The Wonder of Water: Dealing with Bitter Waters”

Scripture: Exodus 15:22-26 (NRSV)

When the Israelites in the wilderness found bitter water, Moses cried out to God. We are called to cry out to God who makes bitter water sweet.

May 7 – “The Wonder of Water: Underwater Praying” (Communion Sunday)

Scripture: Jonah 1:17-2:10 (NRSV)

Jonah’s prayer inside the big fish teaches us about the God the runaway prophet met and experienced underwater.

May 14 – “The Wonder of Water: In My Mother’s Womb” (Mother’s Day)

Scripture: Psalm 139:13-16 (NRSV)

On Mother’s Day, we share a message about God’s motherly love, which began even before the time of the mother’s womb and has continued every day of our lives.

May 21 – “The Wonder of Water: There is a Fountain” (Ascension Sunday & Graduation Sunday)

Scripture: Zechariah 13:1-6 (NRSV)

This message is about a fountain that God cleanses and purifies us, as we expect the day of God.
